The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Manager with expertise in commercial law and financial services and having experience in payments would be ideal. The successful candidate will support the Chief Legal Officer in managing legal affairs, advising the business on commercial agreements, regulatory obligations, and strategic initiatives. This role will play a critical part in safeguarding the company's interests while enabling commercial growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on commercial agreements, contracts, and partnerships, with a particular focus on payments and financial services;
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including supplier, client, partnership, and technology agreements;
• Advise on regulatory and compliance requirements, particularly in relation to financial services legislation, licensing, and payment regulations;
• Support the Chief Legal Officer in managing external counsel, regulatory inquiries, and complex legal matters;
• Contribute to risk management by identifying potential legal risks and proposing practical solutions;
• Offer legal support for internal projects, business initiatives, and transformation programs, and participating in cross-functional working groups;
• Prepare materials and reports to support internal discussions, decision-making, and risk management;
• Proactively advising the business on significant legal and regulatory developments and their potential impact;
• Assist in the development of internal policies, procedures, and frameworks to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
• Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on relevant legal and regulatory developments;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (compliance, operations, finance, and technology) to align legal considerations with business objectives.

About You

Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer with a recognised legal degree and license to practise in an EU jurisdiction;
• Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience, ideally in commercial, payments, fintech, or financial services law (in-house or top-tier law firm having regulatory and commercial advisory experience);
• Strong knowledge of commercial contracts and strong interest in payments regulation, and emerging EU financial services law;
• Demonstrated experience with PSD2, AML/CFT frameworks, data protection (GDPR), and licensing matters;
• Skilled negotiator with excellent drafting, analytical, and advisory abilities;
• Experience in commercial law and regulatory project management;
• Knowledge of payment innovations, payments architecture and applicable regulatory framework (including card schemes);
• Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels;
• Fluent in English.
