An Exciting Opportunity has Arisen within the Data Department at Betsson Group in the Malta HeadQuarters. The Head of Data & BI will be responsible for leading all Data and Business Intelligence Engineers.

The Head of Data will be responsible for leading all Data and Business Intelligence (BI) Engineers, holding ultimate accountability for the vision, development, and ongoing maintenance of all data products. This role is centred on enhancing the usability of data solutions and strengthening self-service capabilities, thereby improving the experience for both internal and external customers. 

A taster of what you will be involved with: 

As the Head of Data & Business Intelligence, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing the vision and strategy for the data organisation within a data mesh environment. You will be responsible for ensuring that all core products—such as reports, dashboards, data feeds, and integrations—are robust, precise, accurate, performant, and user-friendly. 

You will provide guidance to the engineering team on best practices, actively promoting a modern and agile culture throughout the department. A continual focus on improvement and the maintenance of high-performance standards across all engineering teams is essential in this role. 

Collaboration is key, and you will partner closely with the Product organisation to ensure smooth and agile product development. In addition, you will work alongside the Platform team to ensure that accelerators and automations are developed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Data and BI engineering work. 

A significant aspect of this position involves developing and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. Staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the Data, BI, and Reporting space will enable you to proactively suggest and implement improvements, ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of industry advancements. 

What we are looking for
  • Graduation in Computer Science or other related fields. A Masters in any Data or Software engineering related is considered a plus. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex Data and BI challenges efficiently. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities to engage and align with diverse groups across the organization. 
  • Proven collaboration and team leadership, fostering a supportive, high-performing team culture.
  • Business-driven and data-driven mindset to align technical solutions with business objectives and deliver measurable value. 
  • Experience leading large Data and BI Engineering teams, providing strategic direction and ensuring departmental excellence. 
  • Demonstrated capability in managing complex data projects in fast-paced, dynamic environments. 
  • Expertise across the Data Lifecycle (ingestion, transformation, load) and hands-on experience with cloud platforms (especially AWS and Snowflake). 
  • Advanced proficiency in Business Intelligence tools and practical experience with AI-driven analytics and reporting.
