Our client is seeking a highly experienced professional to lead the Indirect Tax function, driving the strategic development, delivery, and growth of the service line. The selected candidate will be responsible for shaping the company's indirect tax strategy, overseeing operations, and ensuring the provision of exceptional client service across areas including VAT, customs, and excise duties. This senior role combines leadership, technical expertise, and business development, offering a significant opportunity to contribute to the firm's long-term success.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategy
  • Lead the strategic development and positioning of the company's Indirect Tax services.
  • Provide expert guidance on indirect tax matters—including VAT, customs, and excise duties—to support strategic and policy direction.
  • Ensure appropriate strategies, execution plans, operational tools, and policies are in place to sustain and expand the Indirect Tax practice.
  • Develop and communicate a compelling value proposition and go-to-market plan for Indirect Tax services.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and effective implementation.
  • Prepare and present budgets, forecasts, and performance reports to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Align the Indirect Tax roadmap with the company's long-term objectives and global goals, ensuring consistency across all functions.
Operations
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients on all indirect tax matters, proactively identifying their needs and delivering high-quality, tailored advice.
  • Take full ownership of Indirect Tax service delivery across a diverse client portfolio, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Manage client engagements related to indirect tax compliance, advisory, and planning; oversee billing and collections in line with firm policies.
  • Review and validate the technical work, reports, and advice prepared by team members to ensure exceptional quality.
  • Plan and monitor engagement budgets and resource allocation, communicating any deviations to clients and senior leadership.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the firm's quality control standards, particularly for complex tax assignments.
  • Identify indirect tax-related risks and opportunities, advising the Board as appropriate and exercising sound professional judgment.
  • Collaborate with other tax leaders and service lines to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary tax solutions.
  • Lead and contribute to proposal development and client pitches for indirect tax advisory and compliance engagements.
  • Work closely with other specialist departments to provide holistic advice on business and regulatory issues influenced by indirect tax.
Business Development & Growth
  • Drive the marketing and business development strategy for the Indirect Tax service line.
  • Evaluate and expand the firm's service offerings, identifying new market opportunities and service gaps.
  • Promote the company's services and actively cross-sell other offerings within the broader organisation.
  • Lead the growth and development of the business unit by strengthening existing services and introducing new ones.
  • Stay informed on evolving tax trends and regulatory developments to identify emerging business opportunities.
  • Leverage team expertise to enhance the firm's indirect tax capabilities and overall client offering.
Ambassadorship
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the company's services and proactively identify ways to better serve clients.
  • Demonstrate sound business acumen and awareness of industry trends relevant to clients' sectors.
  • Represent the firm as a brand ambassador at events, conferences, and panel discussions.
  • Engage in networking initiatives and support the organisation of business development events to raise the company's market profile.
People Management
  • Partner with leadership to attract, retain, and develop top talent within the Indirect Tax team.
  • Effectively manage resources to ensure optimal team utilisation and performance.
  • Provide constructive, on-the-job feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Foster an innovative, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
  • Mentor and support professional development through knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate relevant professional development initiatives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and goal-setting sessions in line with company policy.
