Malta Industry: Payments / Financial Services Reporting to: Finance Manager This is an opportunity to work for a growing payments firm specialising in providing financial services and payment solutions to businesses operating within the iGaming sector. As part of their continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their finance team in Malta. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with solid accounting knowledge who enjoys working in a fast-paced, international environment and is comfortable dealing with high-volume transactions, multiple currencies and detailed reconciliations. The Role You will support the finance function across a broad range of accounting activities, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and financial records are maintained to a high standard. Your responsibilities will include:
- Processing and posting financial transactions in line with internal controls and accounting policies
- Performing multi-currency bank and account reconciliations
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Investigating and resolving transaction and reconciliation discrepancies
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes
- Preparing and assisting with VAT returns and related reporting
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Assisting with regulatory and financial reporting requirements
- Liaising with internal teams, banks, payment providers and other external stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls What They're Looking For
- Good practical knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls
- Proven experience in an accounts/finance role
- Strong experience with bank reconciliations and multi-currency reconciliations
- Experience preparing or supporting VAT returns
- Ideally, exposure to both Maltese and UK accounting standards
- Experience within payments, banking, financial services, iGaming or another regulated environment would be advantageous
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical abilities
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate discrepancies
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively to a wider finance team Qualifications An AAT qualification or equivalent , or someone currently working towards an accounting qualification, would be preferred. Relevant practical accounting experience will also be highly valued.
