Job description

Melita is looking for a Data Scientist to strengthen our advanced analytics capability and help us derive deeper insights from our extensive data assets. You will play a key role in developing data-driven models that explain and forecast market behaviour, supporting better strategic and operational decisions across the business. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys exploring data, building predictive and structural models, and turning analytical findings into meaningful business recommendations.

Job requirements

  • Access, assess, prepare, and enrich structure and unstructured datasets — explore internal and external data sources to understand structure, availability, and quality; integrate data sources to build model-ready datasets.

  • Develop and validate time-series, structural, and causal models to forecast outcomes and quantify key drivers. 

  • Understand the business needs, define and execute on a data science approach and translate model outputs into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for Commercial and Operational teams. 

  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and effective model deployment.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist in a commercial environment.

  • High level of proficiency in mathematics and statistics, and a solid grasp of the theory and implementation of data science techniques.

  • Strong background in time-series modelling (e.g. SARIMAX, Prophet, BSTS), structural regression, causal inference methods (e.g. Difference-in-Differences, CausalImpact, synthetic control), predictive machine learning techniques (e.g. gradient boosting, random forests, regularized regression).

  • Excellent command of Python (pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels, Prophet, etc.) and SQL.

  • Experience working with large data-warehouse environments and integrating multiple data sources.

  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proactive attitude to problem solving, with a personal sense of ownership and responsibility, collaborative team-player comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
