Class Optical – Malta's leading specialist in the optical industry for over 40 years – is looking for a skilled and driven Quality Engineer to take ownership of quality across process, supplier, and customer touchpoints for our ISO certified Optical Lens Manufacturing Laboratory.

This is a key technical role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, continuous improvement, and working across functions to make sure products and processes meet the highest standards.

JOB PURPOSE 
The Quality Engineer ensures that quality is built into everything we do – from supplier inputs and in-house production to customer experience and feedback. The role covers process improvements, supplier quality, and handling of customer complaints, while keeping systems and practices in line with international standards. You will lead problem-solving, corrective actions, and improvement projects, while helping to strengthen our quality culture across the business.

You are detail-oriented, practical, and analytical. You like getting to the root of problems, finding solutions, and making sure processes work smoothly. You know your way around quality systems, audits, and supplier management. You are a strong communicator who can work well with teams, suppliers, and customers to keep quality at the heart of everything.

WHO YOU'LL BE WORKING WITH 

You'll report to the Chief Commercial Officer and work closely with the Head of Manufacturing, production and technical teams, quality colleagues, and customer service staff. You'll also interact with suppliers and external auditors when needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor and analyze process data to identify issues and improvements.
  • Support process validation and equipment qualification.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audit readiness.
  • Review and update SOPs and quality documentation.
  • Train and mentor staff on quality processes and standards.
  • Drive lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee supplier quality management, audits, and incoming inspections.
  • Manage customer complaint investigations and resolutions.
  • Support post-market surveillance (PMS), risk management, and vigilance reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, CE, and EU MDR requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE 

  • 5+ years' experience in process or quality engineering in a manufacturing setting.
  • 2–3 years in an ISO-regulated environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Hands-on experience with CAPA, process validation, and QMS.
  • Good knowledge of ISO/CE standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in supplier quality management and audits.
  • Strong communicator and team player with a proactive mindset.
  • Proven leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with automation and digital quality tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of EU MDR and design verification/validation is an advantage.
  • Degree in Engineering. Maltese Engineering Warrant preferred, or working towards obtaining it.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Full Time – Indefinite Contract
  • Based at Head Office (San Gwann, Malta) with cross-department collaboration
