Senior Legal Advisor

Our client is seeking a seasoned legal professional to lead the company's legal function and oversee a diverse portfolio of gambling brands operating under multiple gambling licenses. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring that the company's structure and operations remain fully compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. The role requires expertise in Maltese law and MGA license regulations, and candidates must be based in Malta.
Responsibilities
- Lead the company's efforts to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, license requirements, and certifications.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on business operations and advising the executive team on appropriate strategic responses.
- Provide guidance on legal, regulatory, and commercial matters relating to business development and strategy.
- Manage and coordinate the legal team to foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.
- Work closely with the Head of Compliance in securing and maintaining gaming and sports betting licenses from relevant state regulatory bodies.
- Build and manage relationships with regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with licensing and reporting obligations.
- Represent the company in regulatory discussions, hearings, negotiations, and other legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, or dispute resolution.
- Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation, ensuring alignment with business objectives and appropriate risk management.
- Identify legal risks proactively and implement policies to mitigate them.
- Develop and maintain internal compliance policies and legal procedures.
- Supervise the monitoring, approval, updating, and recording of all gaming policies and procedures to ensure strict adherence to jurisdictional requirements.
- Stay informed of developments in legal, regulatory, and industry frameworks relevant to gaming, betting, and related sectors.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of legal experience within the iGaming industry, including in-house experience.
- University degree in Law with a focus on Maltese law.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling complex legal matters.
- Leadership experience considered a strong advantage.
- In-depth understanding of gambling laws and regulations, with broad knowledge of casino and online gambling compliance.
- Exceptional negotiation, mediation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Proven track record of effectively assessing and managing legal and regulatory risk.
